BLUEPLATE MACHINE SPLICED CUES

BLUEPLATE cues are taper turned ash shafts, with a machine spliced ebony butt. These cues are hand sanded and hand finished and have base joints fitted as standard.

These cues are available in a 12” butt jointed version from stock only, the lengths available are either 57” or 58” and the ferrule sizes available are either 9.5mm or 10mm. The weights vary from 17ozs to 20ozs.

REDPLATE HAND SPLICED CUES

The shafts on these cues are machine turned oversized the butts are hand spliced, these cues are then left for a period of time to settle then are hand planed handsanded and hand finished to final size. They are available in one piece and 16" butt jointed versions and are fitted with a base joint as standard, they are available with a choice of 57" or 58" lengths and 9.5mm or 10mm ferrule, the weights vary from 17ozs to 20 ozs.

HANDMADE GREENPLATE & BLACKPLATE CUES

These cues are the top of our range, they will be made in the traditional way by taking a 60" x 1.5" x 1.5" square of ash or maple which has been cut from a board specially selected for its straightness of grain and desity.

This square will then be gradually hand planed in stages over a period of up to 1 year into a round tapered shaft allowing the wood to settle after each stage.

This time consuming process requires a high level of skill and accuracy, this ensures a shaft retains its straightness rigidity and stability which is vital in the construction of a top quality cue capable of playing the full range of shots required.

If any faults or blemishes are found at any stage of this process the shaft is rejected. The butt is made up of 4 seperate pieces of wood ( known as splices ) generally ebony or rosewood which are laminated onto the shaft, this also requires a high degree of skill and accuracy to produce a finished cue that has very even top and bottom splice points.

If required the butt can be enhanced using a combination of decrotive exotic hardwoods selected for there distingtive colours and figure, natural wood and coloured veneers can also be used to produce a truly individual and unique cue.

For two piece cues a brass joint is fitted to the centre or the butt of the cue, a long hole is then drilled in the bottom of the butt ready to be weighted. The cue is then cut to length and a brass ferrule is fitted ready to accept a tip, its then hand sanded through 7 different grades of sandpaper to its final size. The traditional flat section is then planed off the bottom of the butt, the cue is then weighted and the nameplate is fitted. Either a base joint that accepts a mini butt and telescopic extension or a moulded leather pad is fitted to the base of the cue. The cue is then sealed with a fine grain sealer and a tip is fitted and shaped.

The final process is to linseed oil polish the cue to a silky smooth finish, its then finally checked by sight for straightness. This handcrafted HUNT & OSBORNE CUE is now ready to be played with and enjoyed for years to come.

BLACKPLATE HANDMADE CUES

These cues are made to measure to a customers specifications and design only, they can be made in either a one piece, centre jointed or in various butt jointed versions. They are made in exactly the same way as the greenplate cues but are for customers who require very specific shaft grain or graduation requirements ( eg number of arrows or evenly spaced arrows on an ash shaft, a perfectly white unblemish maple shaft both much sort after by many players or who are very specific with dimensions relating to taper graduation )

Each cue is fitted with its own serial numbered nameplate and comes complete with a certificate of authentication.
